Aesthetic opinion on height, too, has often changed over the years. Being tall has always secured fairly high approval online date ratings – from Book 20 of Homer’s ‘Odyssey’, where the goddess Artemis honours the daughters of Pandarus with the gift of height, to today, when even six-foot supermodels wear giant heels on the catwalk. On the other hand, we are frequently told that ‘men prefer short women’, so a definite ideal escapes us again.

Even history, then, fails to solve the mystery of beauty and to settle the contradictions in modern women’s magazines. Perhaps we should have expected this all along, given that Helen of Troy, so famously described by Marlowe as “the face that launched a thousand ships”, is actually given very little physical description in Classical literature (interestingly, if she existed she would have had a dark, Mediterranean complexion and would little have resembled the blondes whom Hollywood chooses to play her). It seems that the Ancients may have been as stymied as we are as to what constitutes perfection.

Sadly for Kate Moss, Miranda Kerr and other supermodel, the only physical characteristics that appear never to have been in vogue are the signs of age, which is why they must be airbrushed away before she can be in, well, Vogue.

But given the evidence that tall, short, fat, thin, dark and fair people have all had their day at some point in history, and that we are now faced with an aging population, perhaps the wrinkle’s time is coming. May it fall to Moss and other supermodels Miranda Kerr don't believe and they only ask it, do what she does best, and set the trend.

14-year-old Li Yuan, who won the Guangxi region section of the Miss Asia beauty contest earlier this month, has become a controversial star, with people concerned her effect as a role fashion model will fuel underage modeling.

"My daughter has been teenage modeling for two years. She has won 50 prizes at various levels of model contests, and was the overall winner in 12 of them," said her mother Fan Xuefang.

"The age limit of the preliminary contest in Guangxi was lowered to 14 this year from 16 in previous years," said He Gang, organizer of the regional heat.

"A lower age limit was piloted in Guangxi this year. In other areas, the age limit is still 16. We required minors to show their parents' approval in writing to take part in the contest, " he said.

He said: "I feel young contenders -- those born after 1990 -- are very independent. They are willing to go on stage to demonstrate their talent and courage.".

But fashion industry experts disagree.

"Underage girls may be tall enough but their immature bodies trend fashion can't fully convey the charm of clothes. Our company doesn't recruit models younger than 16," said Li Xiaobai, chairman of Xin Silu (New Face) Model Company, which is the oldest and largest modeling agency in China.

One of the judges in the contest in Guangxi, Sha Xiaofan, a veteran models' agent, said school-age contenders often did not display "culture, knowledge and intelligence."

Supermodel Heidi Klum's neighbours came to her rescue after the German beauty who was in a park with her children was surrounded by paparazzi.

The 'Victoria's Secret' model who is expecting her fourth child was at the centre of a paparazzi swarm when some of her neighbours who too were there with their children asked the photographers to leave the family in peace.

When they refused to budge, the parents asked their children to gang up and pelt them with water balloons, reported New York Post.

The ensuing chaos allowed the model to leave the park without being followed by the pack of photographers.

Proudly championing the ‘modern conservative movement’ says the publisher’s website, the Regnery’s president told E!Online that [Prejean] wanted to write a book about freedom of speech and the double standard that seems to exist when someone speaks their mind and doesn’t happen to be politically correct or consistent with what a crazy Hollywood celebrity thinks is the right answer.

And according the the publisher, ‘writing’ the book is no exaggeration. It’s not one of these things where she’s only the face and it’s not her words. She’s writing it, president, Marji Ross, told E!Online.

Still Standing is the reported title of the model’s foray into the world or words, with the finished product due out in November.

Burberry's Budget Success

WHILE the financial markets are prophesising doom and gloom it seems things are a little sunnier at Burberry - the brand has reported a rise in sales of 14 per cent to £245 million for the six months to September 30 as a result of improvements in the supply chain, which provided on-time deliveries of new season stock.

"I am pleased with Burberry's performance in the first half of the year," said Burberry chief executive Angela Ahrendts. "Against the background of an increasingly challenging external environment. The strength of our diversified business model was again demonstrated as we delivered double-digit growth for the fifth consecutive six-month period."

Innovation in iconic outerwear (read classic Burberry trenches) and accessories are also reported to have helped drive sales as has the brand's concerted push into the US market, which has seen an increase in its selling space in the first half of the year by 13 per cent year-on-year with five new stores, 19 new concessions and four outlet stores.

Kimberly Fisher was born in Roy, Utah to an English/American Indian father and an Asian mother. As a child, she moved to Germany before settling down in Anchorage, Alaska. Her unique genetic background presented her with an exotic beauty that was complemented by her athleticism, which she put toward cheer leading, dance, hiking, snowboarding, and hockey.

Kimberly's love for school led her to Las Vegas, where she double-majored in psychology and criminal justice at UNLV. In addition to her educational pursuits, Kimberly Fisher also began to chase after a modeling career. Her gigs required her to travel to and from Los Angeles so often that she finally packed up and moved there permanently in 2000. After winning six beauty pageant crowns and titles, and more than 50 awards and trophies, Kimberly finally retired from the pageant gamut in 2001 to focus on her great model and acting careers.

Kimberly spent two years honing her acting skills under Robert Carnegie at the Playhouse West, which Ashley Judd also attended. She was a quick study and immediately began landing roles and guest appearances on television shows, such as Soul Train, The X Show, The Man Show (with Jimmy Kimmel), and Strip Mall. Kimberly has also been in several independent movies, including Madame Hollywood (2002), The Model Solution (2002), Nudity Required (2003), The Lost Girl Society (2004), and Zombie Farm (2006).

Kimberly has a way to go before she was an established actress, but in the meantime, we'll continue to enjoy watching her show off her moneymaker in small productions, in magazines like Hot Boat and in sexy calendars.

Andi Muise was born on January 12, 1987, in wintry North Bay, Ontario, Canada. As a young girl, Andi dreamed of a modeling career and spent countless hours perusing fashion magazines, envisioning herself in the place of super models such as Naomi Campbell and Cindy Crawford.

A routine trip to the mall in 2002, when Andi was just 14, proved to be particularly fortuitous: She was spotted by Michele Miller, the owner of well-known fashion model agency International Model Management. Michele started by placing Andi in local print campaigns, and it wasn't long before she was modeling for such high-profile names as Armani and FCUK.

A move to New York at the age of 17 proved to be a wise decision, as Andi was soon appearing in ads for recognizable companies, such as Bloomingdale's and Urban Outfitters, and within the pages of reputable publications like GQ and Allure.
